Underfloor heating is the most widely used heating system in modern homes, as it is energy-efficient and has a host of other excellent characteristics. The air temperatures at different levels of the living space are closest to the ideal ones. This provides a feeling of comfort, despite the fact that compared to a room heated by radiators, the average room temperature is lower.

Less thermal movement of the air means less rising dust and a higher relative air humidity. Since the temperature of the heated water is lower, low-temperature boilers, solar systems or heat pumps are suitable for underfloor heating.

The Romans already used underfloor heating in their public baths. The public baths were heated with hot air, which went under the stone pavement and through clay pipes in the walls (hypocaustum).
